Hi there, welcome to Summer Sun Bear, a blog about dressmaking!

I’m Bonnie and I live in Oxford with an ever-growing stash of fabric and haberdashery. I caught the sewing bug a few years ago when my housemate bought an old Singer sewing machine from a charity shop and our whole house rallied around to get it working again. It was only a matter of time before I got my hands on a Singer Featherweight of my very own and started experimenting… and the rest is history!

I have always been of the opinion that if you want something done properly you should do it yourself. I love the idea of having clothes that are designed for my body, with my choice of fabric and pattern, and to be able to support independent businesses and buy ethically. I feel empowered that I can take my clothing choices back from the high street.

This blog is a place for me to show you what I’ve sewn, the mistakes I’ve made, how I solved them and, well, to meet all you lovely sewists. Along the way I hope I learn some things and inspire you to try something new.

So read away my friend and I hope to see you again!
